You can build a lot with just dumbbells

Here's the bit most "you need a full gym" advice skips: a pair of adjustable dumbbells covers the overwhelming majority of what builds muscle. I trained dumbbell-only for 18 months when the gyms were shut and it was one of the best shapes I've been in (goblet squats, rows, presses, RDLs, lunges — more than enough). Barbells add a ceiling for heavy strength work eventually, but that's a problem for later, not for now.

What dumbbells demand is a bit more reps and a bit more creativity, and that's exactly what this builder handles — tell it you've got dumbbells only and it structures a full routine around them, then tracks your progress so you keep adding load. Just try it and see what a dumbbell-only week looks like.

Common questions

Can you build muscle with only dumbbells?
Yes — for most people, adjustable dumbbells cover squats, presses, rows, hinges and lunges, which is the bulk of muscle-building work. You progress by adding reps and weight over time, same as any plan.
What dumbbells should I get?
One adjustable pair that goes reasonably heavy beats a rack of fixed light ones for a home setup — it lets you keep progressing. The builder above works from whatever you've got; just set your equipment.
