A newborn essentials checklist, kept deliberately short

Essentials are a shorter list than the registry

A baby registry tends to grow (gifts, nice-to-haves, things relatives want to buy), and that's fine — that's what registries are for. Essentials are a different, much shorter question: what do you actually need ready for the first few weeks, before you've worked out what you'll use and what'll sit in a cupboard unopened.

This roadmap treats "sort the essentials" as its own tracked task, separate from the registry, so it doesn't get lost inside a longer wish list or left until the last minute. It won't tell you which specific products to buy or which brand is best (plenty of other sites will happily do that, with mixed reliability) — it just helps you time the task itself, so the pared-down list is ready before you need it rather than the week you bring the baby home. Just try it: set your due date and see where the essentials task sits in your timeline.

Common questions

What counts as a newborn essential versus a registry item?
Essentials are the pared-down basics you need ready for the first few weeks; a registry tends to be broader, with gifts and nice-to-haves included. This tool keeps them as separate tracked tasks rather than telling you what belongs on either list.
When should newborn essentials be ready?
Sensibly, before the due date rather than after — many people aim for a few weeks ahead, in case things arrive early. The roadmap gives the task its own slot once you set your due date.
